GEMINIS all-new GT11i Multitasking CNC Bed Lathes Completes the Product Range for Turning Large Diameter Workpieces

The all-new GTi range of heavy-duty multitasking lathes from industry leader GEMINIS is now complete with the introduction of the Geminis GT11i. The largest among the GTi range, the GT11i offers an astounding 138” of swing over the bed and can has the capacity to hold up to 330,000 lbs between centers. The GT11i joins the GT5i, released in 2019 at EMO HANOVER, with 55” of swing over the bed and 13,000 lbs capacity between centers, the GT7i with up to 78” of swing and GT9i with up to 94” of swing.

The GTi range leverages GEMINIS’ 60 years of experience and innovation to deliver increased rigidity, accuracy and ease of operation. At the heart of the GTi lathes is a headstock with larger bearings to deliver 4-speed ranges. A new brake system features higher torque and torsional rigidity for improved angular positioning on the C-axis. An all-new rack-and-pinion drive system is standard for the Z-axis with an additional front guideway of the bed for increased rigidity while the distance between guideways of the bed also contributes to increased rigidity and allows for integration of a broad range of turrets and boring units.

New sheet metal guarding and a 22” CNC controller screen (optional) give the GTi lathes a modern clean look, while improving ergonomics and ease of maintenance. Cabling is now protected from chips as well as coolant and wider chip conveyors provide optimal chip evacuation. A lower bed frame makes for easier access to setup and inspection and wider working surface for the operator. Stainless steel inner finishing is also now standard and LED lighting improves visibility within.

Adding to the structural improvements, GEMINIS Smart Manufacturing 4.0 enables operators and management to monitor key functions of the machine remotely on most smartphones, tablets and PCs. This includes the monitoring of energy consumption, temperature, total elapsed time running, current tool in use, machine position and alarms. Data collected provides statistical history for analysis to help optimize machine performance and schedule routine maintenance. Smart Manufacturing 4.0 can also be integrated with CAD/CAM and ERP programs without the need for additional hardware.
